I recommend you take a look at this page about unlimited sitemap generators. In short, I think 2.x series of A1 Sitemap Generator with some configuration to split it into managable projects (say e.g. 200,000-400,000 pages) will be the best solution. (Unless you have an easy-to-extract-data-from database driven website)

There is a good article that gives step by step instructions on where you can submit your sitemap: How to Submit your Sitemap to the Top 5 Places Where They Need to Be (Google,Bing, Yahoo!, Ask.com, Moreover.com). It is the natural next step after generating your sitemap!

Well, that is the idea. Robots.txt includes a reference to your sitemap.xml file. I recommend you check the xml sitemap submit / robots tutorial at this website

I dont see why robots.txt is so important, if we aint gonna include any link in it ..
